About Us

Our experience and knowledge means that we can bring invaluable insight to complex pension matters.

Open Trustees was established in January 1992 as Osborne Clarke Pension Trustees (becoming known as Open Trustees from June 2011). Since then we have amassed a wealth of experience acting for:

  • All types of arrangements, including defined benefit schemes, defined contribution schemes and hybrid arrangements; and
  • Schemes at all stages of their life, whether newly established, ongoing defined benefit schemes, closed or paid up schemes and schemes that are being wound up.

Whilst the schemes we manage come in all shapes and sizes, the one thing they have in common is an overriding concern for quality. As such, we work closely with scheme advisers to deliver sensible, pragmatic solutions.

Open Trustees is a member of the Association of Corporate Trustees, the Independent Trustee Group of the Pensions Management Institute, the Society of Pension Professionals and the Pension Protection Fund’s trustee advisory panel. All directors and pension managers are accredited members of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees.

Our approach

We work collaboratively with other trustees and scheme advisers and seek to build open and honest working relationships.

We recognise the need for an independent trustee that adds value, and we can agree fixed or capped fees that fit within the budget set by the employer or co-trustees.

We work diligently and rigorously but in a cost effective manner. We identify issues early on and then provide sensible and pragmatic solutions to resolve them.

Whilst Open Trustees is a wholly owned subsidiary of the international law firm Osborne Clarke LLP, our work is entirely independent. Open Trustees cannot therefore provide you with legal advice, but we will bring our legal knowledge and expertise to any matter.

Our team has substantial practical experience and, due to their varied backgrounds within the pensions industry, are highly knowledgeable of the actuarial, investment and administrative issues which affect pension schemes.

Our experience in the market and the expertise of our team means that we give our schemes the highest level of support they require.

For every appointment, a director is assigned to take overall responsibility for delivering our services, with support from a named co-director, a pensions manager and a pensions assistant (as required) so that your matters are always handled at the most appropriate level.

Knowledgeable and pro-active. If there is a problem Open Trustees always present a solution and always delivers on time - Feedback from major client of Open Trustees
